Preventing Prostate Cancer
Prostate cancer is considered as one of the most common cancer that affects men. It is one of those types of cancers that develops slowly, show very few symptoms and affects men of any race or ethnicity. While it can be a fatal form of cancer in its advanced stages, early detection and treatment makes it one of the more treatable cancers.
But more than treating prostate cancer, prevention is still the most effective method available. There are many things that men can do in order to lower their risk of getting prostate cancer. Here are some of them.
Eat More Tomatoes
Eating tomatoes may prove beneficial when it comes to preventing prostate cancer. Lycopene in tomatoes seems to be the factor in the reduction of prostate cancer risk. Cooking tomatoes makes lycopene found in them become more potent. Two or more servings per week provides the necessary benefit that men may need in battling the threat of prostate cancer.
Coffee Drinking
Studies show that drinking coffee may have a substantial effect on prostate cancer. Whether the coffee is regular, decaf or something in between, studies show that drinking six or more cups of coffee daily can reduce the formation of advanced prostate cancer in men by as much as 59 percent. Studies are still underway to determine what it is in coffee that protects men against prostate cancer.
Increase Fish Oil Intake
If ever you have that crave for fats, considering eating the healthy oils out there helps in preventing certain types of cancers. Fish oil is known to have a beneficial effect in protecting against cancers. A rich dose of omega-3 fatty acids, EPA and DHA found in fish oils are known to inhibit the growth of cancer cells and tumors. Studies also show that people who ate fish three times a week also reduced their risk for aggressive prostate cancer by as much as 25 percent.
